Liars All is an abysmally constructed murder mystery that, at times, masquerades as a sexy college hijinx film. It takes itself way too seriously, needlessly cuts its scenes so they aren’t in chronological or even any kind of logical order, presents an obvious twist as if it’s extraordinary, and expects the viewer to relate to/care about its unethical characters.
Just picking a few of the characters to be worse than others isn’t meaningful, especially when you called the film: Liars All. Here’s what you do. Set up the frame narrative at the beginning with the investigator looking into the young people party that got way out of hand. Then you progress the key events of the film in chronological order, showing the natural escalation of the party into drug overdoses and criminality, periodically cutting to the investigator catching the young people in little lies, consequently lending credence to the initial concept. For a twist, you demonstrate that the investigator isn’t an investigator at all, but yet another liar, manipulating these in-over-their heads young people for some insidious purpose. Thus the characters of the film really are Liars All.
I guess you didn’t think of it.
Maybe someone should pay me to do this BEFORE the stories are released.
