A few days ago I was so tired and so lazy that I watched Rat Race. All of Rat Race. Do you have any idea how committed to doing nothing you have to be in order to watch the first few scenes of Rat Race and then think to yourself, “Yeah, alright. Let’s do this for another ninety minutes.”
It’s not good. The movie has a premise that has the potential for comedy and then fails to deliver with each consecutive joke. It’s as if the writer came up with the idea of having people race across the desert so a billionaire could be amused, and then had no idea what to do in order to actually fill the film with… well… content. The sad thing is that I can see a movie where John Cleese puts two million dollars in a locker in New Mexico and watches people scramble for it for his own amusement that works, but this isn’t it. If I want to watch a movie where the most functional story is a romance between Breckin Meyer and Amy Smart then I’ll watch Road Trip because at least in that movie she takes her shirt off. Also, you should know that I haven’t seen Road Trip in ten years.
So why did I watch Rat Race? I don’t know. I apologize.
