Like so many comedies lately, Anchorman 2 is perfectly willing to throw away all semblance of plot development in order to try to grab a desperate laugh. It’s a sad state of affairs made worse by the fact that the film is rarely funny. It’s just not worth it. You go in expecting to watch something stupid and hopefully amusing and you come out having watched something stupid that wasn’t amusing.
The one thing I will credit Anchorman 2 with is that the creators did manage to get an impressive array of random celebrities to do cameos for the news team battle at the end. I would have given the film a near perfect score had the franchise ended with that battle. The History Channel News Team with Liam Neeson, John C. Reilly as the ghost of Stonewall Jackson, and the Minotaur should have just dominated, killed off all the other characters including Ron Burgundy, thereby supplanting any other in-progress story elements. The final shot could have been Liam Neeson slapping the Minotaur on the back in a brotherly fashion and then walking off through a sea of corpses.
Your film has no integrity anyway. Why not, for once, just admit, “We don’t care and it shows.”
